In September 2026, Uppingham Hung Yen officially welcomed its founding cohort of pupils. Ahead of this milestone, BOHO completed the fit-out works for the Junior School, bringing to life a purpose-built educational environment for children aged 3 to 11.

BOHO’s scope of work included Foundation Stage and Primary classrooms, Junior School library, reception lobby, and outdoor play areas. With different types of spaces serving children at various stages of development, the project required more than accurate execution of the orginal design. Each area also needed to respond effectively to the ways young children learn, move, interact, and use their surroundings.

An age-appropriate learning experience

Between the ages of 3 and 11, differences in physical development, behaviour, and independence levels directly influence how children experience and use educational spaces. Interior details from furniture proportions, usable heights, tactile surfaces, and circulation path therefore required careful and precise execution.

During construction, BOHO pays meticulous attention to high-touch areas, edge treatments, and the age-appropriateness of interior components. The quality of the finish is measured by how safely, conveniently, and naturally it supports daily use, whilst maintaining consistency with the original design.

Bringing a holistic educational philosophy to life through learning space design

At Uppingham School Hung Yen, every setting contributes to a different aspect of the learning experience. Classrooms create opportunities for interaction and creative thinking. The library encourages children to follow their curiosity. Shared and outdoor spaces invite movement, play, and social connection.

Designed to be a welcoming space and a favorite spot for young learners, the library is a place where children can freely choose their favorite books, enjoy reading in their own way, discuss with friends, or find a quiet corner to immerse themselves in a good story.

These diverse experiences encourage students to take initiative and find genuine joy in reading.

Crafted by BOHO with meticulous attention to detail, the library space is tailored specifically to the needs and age groups of Preschool and Primary students.

This warm, comfortable environment makes the library an inviting haven where children love to visit, spend time with books, and discover something new every day.

The open classroom design creates a direct relationship between indoor learning areas and the surrounding greenery, allowing movement, observation, and engagement with the environment to become part of the school day.

Throughout the fit-out process, BOHO carefully maintained the clarity of the spatial arrangement and the relationship between functional zones. This ensures the space fully meets operational requirements, enhances convenience, and offers maximum flexibility for teaching and learning activities.

Active & Play Areas: Connecting children and building social skills

Beyond the classroom, communal and outdoor play areas are thoughtfully designed to encourage physical movement, peer interaction, and group participation, helping children naturally develop communication, sharing, and collaborative skills.

Here, BOHO’s execution focused on the practical realities of everyday use: durable materials, carefully resolved contact points, and layouts that support the way children move and play. These considerations allow the spaces to remain robust while retaining the openness and visual character intended by the design.
